As you can see, Erin dresses with a great sense of humor. But then there are the boots.

This is Alma Loveland from Ollibird. Alma is an artist and designer; the fabric on her Jean Chatsky Laptop Bag is her design.
When I introduced myself and asked if I could take her photo, Alma said she already kind of knew me. It turns out that I had met Alma’s gorgeous redheaded baby and her husband a few months ago. They were waiting for her in the hallway while she was teaching an Illustrator class in Jordan’s studio space, and that baby was too happy for me to resist. Turns out the baby gets that from mama.
This is Victoria Smith from sfgirlbybay. I suggested she wear a Tricorne with this fantastic bow shirt, but she demurred.
The shirt print is made up of little smoking mouths. I so hope there’s a Surgeon General’s warning on the tag.

This is Jen Lover. When she introduced herself, I kept thinking she calling me lover. Like, “My name is Jen, lover.” And I was like, “Huh. I’m Maggie… sexy.” I had to read her business card before we got everything sorted out. Anyway, orange dress!
And this is Jen’s inspiring charm bracelet, which has a charm for every state she’s visited. Jen, I am ripping this idea right off. So genius.
This is the very bright, capable Janel Laban of Apartment Therapy and her enviable haircut. (Hi, Janel! You cutie.)
She says she tells her stylist to aim for “cheap wig.” I couldn’t get my hair to do this if I had a ceramic straight iron and a pact with the Devil, and so it’s all I’ve ever wanted my hair to do.
Janel’s super functional bag is by Highway, which seems to specialize in that sort of thing.
Also, this hat! Janel says her dog freaks out whenever she wears it because it looks like a little animal attacking her head.
This is Anne Sage of The City Sage, who was married very recently. Though many of us have coveted the over-knee boot, who actually purchases a pair and works them into her wardrobe? Anne does.
In conclusion, yes to elbow patches.
I took some photos of the cute outfits while I was at ALT. This is the very charming Shayna Roosevelt of Room Creative. She has one of those smiles that starts with her eyes.
I’ve had lots of requests for a maternity Mighty Closet, but no willing pregnant friends so far. Fortunately Gabrielle Blair, one of the Alt Summit organizers, just posted her five favorite maternity outfits on Design Mom, so she did the work for me. OK, pretend a foreign dignitary is sitting on the stove and Rachel is listening raptly. Doesn’t this cocktail dress highlight her intellect and sophistication? Also, her bum? Agreed.
The outfit is actually two pieces. One is an incredible vintage dress I gave Rae a while ago, after carrying it around for years hoping to meet someone small enough to wear it. (I was reselling vintage clothes when I acquired it. I’ve since stopped buying thrift-store dresses for friends I don’t know yet. For the most part.)
Unfortunately, the dress is tailored to fit a ’50s-era bullet bra. That means there are two unnatural points where one’s (presumably enormous) nipples would be. Rae planned to have it tailored, but she recently bought this little jacket, so now she may not have to bother.
The feather earrings are from Forever21. Rae is smart about mixing more current accessories with vintage pieces so her outfits don’t read as costumes.
Speaking of which, her blue pumps are by Nine West.
Here’s a closer shot of the little black jacket, purchased at Backspace. It’s by a local San Francisco designer, but Rachel cut the tag out because the jacket is transparent. If you know the designer, tell us in comments and I’ll update.
