Handmade Raffia Shoes

raffiashoes

I bought a pair of these handmade raffia shoes from Oscar and Shades on Etsy and they’re in heavy rotation. They were cheaper when I bought them, they’re $66 now, but I still think it’s worth it for a pair of handmade shoes. I’m sure they’re like $5 wherever they come from, so if you know, go ahead and send me back a pair on your next trip.

That said, they’re super comfy, pretty soft against your feet and don’t chafe anywhere. And because they’re like sandals, zero foot sweat, but still dapper AF. Recommend.

This iRing Phone Gadget Thing is Bomb

Hi. This isn’t an ad, it’s a thing I use.

iring1

I bought an iRing because my friend Ian had one on his phone, and I was covetous.

It’s so useful, I can’t believe everyone doesn’t own one. I mostly use it to stabilize my phone grip when I’m taking photos, but it has saved me from dropping my phone so many times I can’t count.

When it arrives, you pull off a sticky backing a stick it to your phone or case. I’d stick it to a case, because they’re tough to remove otherwise. I don’t love the giant branding, so I’ve been looking at knockoffs and these look pretty good, but the original works and holds up so well that I’ve become a little brand loyal.

Anyway, the little ring part is on a 360-degree swivel, so it only takes a second to make it comfortable, and you can also use the ring as a very stable stand if you want to watch a movie or something. It also comes with a car mount so you can hang it from your dash for navigation and podcasting needs.

I use it every day and it’s perfect. Love, Maggie

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Facial Sunscreen

antheliossunscreen

Hello! This isn’t an ad, it’s a thing I use.

A few weeks ago, I told you about the face cream I’ve been using for years, and mentioned that I have a favorite sunscreen too.

This is it: La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Facial Sunscreen. I’ve been using it on my face, neck, chest, and hands for the past few years. As my girlfriends and I enter our 40s and 50s, we talk about how you can really see who has been wearing sunscreen and sun hats their whole lives — especially the white ladies, although everyone seems to get age spots and the like. I haven’t been militant about sunscreen until the last five years or so, but man, it’s kind of shocking the difference it made when I started applying religiously.

Why Anthelios is the best:

• It works. It doesn’t seem to require as much reapplication as other sunscreens. My age spots are fading, and I’m not picking up any new freckles, which has been a lifelong problem for me.
• It’s a watery liquid, so lightweight you can’t even feel it on your face and neck. You can get a sense of the texture at 2:37 in this video.
• It doesn’t have that overpowering sunscreen smell, and it also doesn’t smell “tropical.”
• It goes on matte.
• It absorbs almost instantly, and feels good under makeup.
• A little goes a long, long way.

Target carries it, but it’s a couple bucks cheaper on Amazon. It’s around $30 for a 2 oz bottle that goes and goes. So it’s not cheap, but again you don’t need much. I put it in the category of good makeup and preventative health stuff like vitamins. Protect your skin, healthy peoples!

If you have a sunscreen you’re devoted to, especially a whole-body one, I’d love to hear.

Creative Playthings Vintage Toys

An article I was reading mentioned Creative Playthings, a vintage brand of toys “to provide simple and beautifully designed toys to promote a child’s creativity and imagination.” Reminds me a little of the modern brand Kid O. Anyway, a quick Etsy search turned up some beautiful (if pricey) stuff:

I also found an image of this structure, which is the exact one they had at my preschool(?) I think:

I can feel the texture of the wood slide surface in my hands. Crazy.
