This is a detail of Katy Stone’s “Little Universe (Burst Boom Bloom).” It’s on the wall at Spoon Bar in Healdsburg, which is one of our new favorite places to stop for a glass of wine while Hank naps in his stroller.
They’re hand painted acrylic floral shapes on clear Duralar plastic, nailed to the wall and arranged at different depths to create a nice 3-D effect. So clever. I think it would be cool to attempt a variation on this technique as art for a bathroom.
Here’s a time lapse of the installation:
very cool. i think the rustic wood background makes it though. i want a large scale piece of art for my bedroom. i might buy some salvaged wood and give this a try. i moved to kentucky about a year ago and i’m attempting a sophisticated hillbilly look.

Denise, I think the wall behind it is cement. You might be able to get a similar effect with chalkboard paint?

upon closer look, it does appear to be brick. i wonder how she was getting the nails in? i have a big exposed brick wall in the bedroom where i wanted to put this. i think i’ll still try the wood. i’ll send a photo if it comes out right.
