1,000 Songs Project: Friday Mixtape

19th November 2010

I’ve always wished I knew more about music, and this is part of my Life List project to listen to 1,000 new songs. Right now I’m up to 832, and on Fridays I share some of my new favorites. If you’d like to share some music with me, please send your picks to maggie at mighty girl dot com, and I will listen to them.

Snowfall from Ingrid Michaealson
(via Tess Evans, who you may remember from Friday Mixtape 19. Tess apparently has exactly the same taste in music as me, to a creepy level. This means we should be friends, unless she is a serial killer. Are you a serial killer, Tess? Check yes or no, and then check your email.)

Dying is Fine from Ra Ra Riot

(This and the next three are from a mix my friend Rachel made me. Thanks, Rae!)

Your Ex Lover is Dead from The Stars

I’m good. I’m gone. from Lykke Li

Because it’s Not Love (But it’s Still a Feeling) from The Pipettes

Still looking for more music? Here you go: Mixtape 1, Mixtape 2, Mixtape 3, Mixtape 4, Mixtape 5, Mixtape 6, Mixtape 7, Mixtape 8, Mixtape 9, Mixtape 10, Mixtape 11, Mixtape 12, Mixtape 13, Mixtape 14, Mixtape 15 , Mixtape 16 , Mixtape 17 , Mixtape 18, Mixtape 19, Mixtape 20, Mixtape 21, Mixtape 22, Mixtape 23

If you’ve yet to listen to mash-up artist Girl Talk, might I recommend his new album that dropped this week? It’s called All Day and it’s free to download! I KNOW. Get it here: http://www.illegal-art.net/allday/

I recognize that this looks like some scary spammy post, but it’s not. Swearsies.

Yay Ra Ra Riot! I love them. I heard a remix of one of their songs using autotune, but the lead singer is unbelievable live, no autotune necessary. Glad to see them featured :)

Hello. I came across your blog, and by far, my favorite feature is the friday mixtape. I looked through a few of your posts, and thought that I should suggest listening to the songs off the new Adele album. Its called 21, but I don’t think its has been released yet. One of the songs, Rolling in the Deep, has been stuck on repeat in my head for the last week, Just thought I would let you know!

Have just spent the last few days ‘thinking’ and have started a new blog totally inspired by your wonderful blog and advice – thank you :)

May I suggest Ellie Goulding. She has a beautiful voice.

Fun fact! I can’t listen to “Your Ex Lover Is Dead” without getting nauseous, so tied is it to memories of pulling over on the way home from work in the throes of morning sickness, vomiting for the 10th time that day. Same with anything by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

Maybe you would like Sarah Jaffe – try the song “Clementine.” I love her voice. Unrelated: “MoneyGrabber” by Fitz and The Tantrums. And “Rio” by Hey Marseilles.

You’re getting so close! I guess I haven’t been paying close enough attention. Been meaning to ask if you’ve checked out any Jackie Greene before? Local boy, super talented. He’s pretty popular now (sold out at the Filmore for day after Thanksgiving and closed out the second day of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest this year), but some people still aren’t aware. Just making sure you’ve given him a shot :-)

Some of my recent favorites, if you’re looking for ideas:

    Dark Hotel by KS Rhoads
    Anemone Arms by Snowden
Holding Us Back – Katie Herzig (especially if you’re feeling that Ingrid song)
