He’s here!

Hey everybody, we had a baby! A tiny, pink baby!

His name is Henry Martin Mason, but you can call him Hank.

I went into labor February 11 at 2 a.m., and he was born around noon that day — 8 lbs. 2 oz., and 21 inches long. I had a really good labor, and as you can see, he’s pretty much the sweetest baby ever.

I’ll tell you more later, after we’re a little less dazed. For now, thanks for all the happy wishes and strong support throughout my pregnancy. I can’t tell you how much I’ve appreciated you guys in the past few months.

Hank is one exceptional baby, and I wish you could snuggle him. He even smells soft.

  2. Congratulations! And yes, as someone who is terrified of going into labor in 5 months, please explain (in detail) how awesome your labor was. And what you think you did to make it that way. :]

  3. Congratulations to you both on the birth of your beautiful son! He shares a birthday with my Mum, who is a fantastic lady. So I am sure he will be a fantastic young man!

  4. Oh my gosh, he is adorable! Congratulations!!!
Not only is he pink and perfect and darling, but you can tell from his features that when he is 45 he is going to be one good looking dude!
And I mean that in a totally non-creepy way.
    Welcome Hank!

  6. Aaawwww look at the babba! He’s very very adorable! Be sure to tell us all later what “a really good labour” entails more precisely… 😛 Blow him a little bellyfart from me.

  7. A tiny, tiny pink baby! Welcome, Hank! (Am I getting ahead of myself by wondering when he’ll have his own website?)

(Okay, yes. That WAS a bit overboard.)

  8. Congratulations. He’s absolutely gorgeous. And I love the name Henry. As the mom to a Sam, I’m a big fan of the old-tymey names.

Have decided I would fight a bear for this child. A bear with a gun.

This made me laugh out loud. On the third night after Sam was born, I was lying in bed and watching him sleep in my arms (FYI, you’ll never spend as much time just staring at another human being as you you will at your children), and I had this sudden crazy hormonal surge of maternal protectiveness that made me feel absolutely ferocious and reduced me to tears at the same time. I still get weepy when I think about it. Such as right now.

P.S. This crazy protectiveness doesn’t go away, but you eventually get a slightly better handle on it. At first, though, you’re all Drew Barrymore from the beginning of Firestarter. But I digress. Mazel tov!

    Sleep when baby sleeps…seriously!

  12. Congratulations, Mason family! I’m single, not even dating, and Henry Martin is the name I have picked out for my own future little man. Henry just because I love the name, and Martin for my grandpa. Glad to see the names work together someplace other than in my own head. He’s beautiful, Maggie. Best wishes to all of you.

  13. stopped by for the first time (though i’ve heard of you often) and saw the picture of your baby, thought the ‘henry…originally uploaded by maggie’ was a clever pun about how you ‘uploaded’ him into the world. kept perusing your posts, found other pictures with similar labels that blew my pun theory out of the water. found other things to laugh at here that didn’t make me question that last martini (or 3).
