He’s here!

Hey everybody, we had a baby! A tiny, pink baby!

His name is Henry Martin Mason, but you can call him Hank.

I went into labor February 11 at 2 a.m., and he was born around noon that day — 8 lbs. 2 oz., and 21 inches long. I had a really good labor, and as you can see, he’s pretty much the sweetest baby ever.

I’ll tell you more later, after we’re a little less dazed. For now, thanks for all the happy wishes and strong support throughout my pregnancy. I can’t tell you how much I’ve appreciated you guys in the past few months.

Hank is one exceptional baby, and I wish you could snuggle him. He even smells soft.

  1. Welcome, Hank! You are a mighty baby!

Best wishes. And that dazed feeling? Well, get used to it because it’s going to be here for a while.

  2. You know, I usually can’t make out this parental resemblance that people are always going on about until the kid is about a year and a half. But this picture has a lot of Bryan. That’s gotta count for something.

  5. People will say sleep when the baby sleeps, but it’s so hard. I often found myself staring at our little girl whenever she would fall asleep in the first weeks she was home – and six months later, I still find myself absolutly mezmorized by her and unable to stop staring. They are the most amazing creatures, these babies, aren’t they? Hank is beautiful. Congratualtions. Now the real fun begins!

  6. Oh, and that bear with the gun? (LOVE that image!)…I think you will find him the least of your adversaries to come. As a mother, you slowly grow a whole NEW set of senses. Once that little piece of your heart is set free to walk about among the big dangerous world, you approach it ALL in a WHOLE NEW WAY.

I became a mother twelve years ago today, in fact. And every year on his birthday I intentionally hold him in my arms, bless his spirit and pray for just one more year of strength to be the best mother I can be. It is a birthday tradition that started the moment he was laid wet and wiggly in my arms, and it continues now that he is almost a HEAD taller than I am(at 12!).

There is NOTHING like a SON to hold you in his big strong arms and love you. Nothing.

CONGRATULATIONS MAGGIE. Welcome to the sisterhood.

  12. A bit of birthday trivia for you and Hank. He shares his with Simpsons creator Matt Groening! (And my friend’s daughter, which is really the only reason I know when Matt Groening’s birthday is…) So, ya know, he’s got that goin’ for him.

Congratulations. It’s so much work, and so much more fun. You’re gonna melt when he laughs at you for the first time.

  14. Delurking to say “Congratulations!” He was born a day earlier than our youngest (who turns 2 in a few minutes).
I will share with you the advice that my mom gave me when I was a brand-new mom, dazed and confused and utterly freaked out: “He will teach you everything you need to know.”
Your life is about to be turned upside-down in the most magical, freakish, awesome way. Enjoy.

  15. Oh, Maggie and Bryan, I’m SO happy for you!
Curious about the reasons behind “Henry”, but I’m guessing it’s a family thing. (Too many Thomases, perhaps?) Big congrats! He’s gorgeous!!
