Robot Dancing is My Super Power

Some days I just want to throw everything aside, and get really good at the robot, you know? Then I’d go have a dance battle with the kid who enters at :36.

Is there anything you wishwishwish you could do, despite a lack of natural talent for it?

  1. Hi Maggie, I lurk but never evers comment.. I’m the kid with the white shirt in the rain.

Nah, but I wish I could what these guys do. I do I do. I also wish I understood what the elephants are saying about us. I don’t think it’s nice.

  2. That kid in the red-orange sweater? He grew up to be the editor of his Ivy League school’s newspaper. (Not kidding — he’s a friend.)

  3. I just got chills…and not because its freezing in my house. Orange sweater guy…man. He killed it.

I wish I could play ragtime. That would be neat.

  4. Draw or otherwise create art. I can learn how to play guitar (and hope to one day), but I think have artistic talent is more innate. You either got it or you don’t. I don’t.

  5. Tan. Or at least not have to wear SPF 30. In November. In upstate NY.

Re:the dancing. This fat white girl will never learn that paying to learn from a badass is no substitute for talent. It isn’t without its merits, though.

  6. I love my body just the way it is, but I’ve always really wanted to be a supermodel. Like a known-around-the-globe-only-needs-one-name supermodel. However, I’m a very athletic 5’6″ and 140 lb. instead.

  7. Play guitar and dance like a ballerina…I probably should add these to the mighty list (at least a step towards those goals anyway).

  8. I wish I could sing, with a big giant LOOKOUT WORLD voice. I’m a small short person, and I think it would be amazing to belt out a tune and have people say “wow, how did all that music just come out of your mouth?!”

  9. I am in awe of my friend Eric who followed his little sister to her dance class one day and discovered an amazing talent for ballet when he was 13 years old. I am floored by my mate P who decided he enjoyed cooking last year and will be on Masterchef this season. I seriously hate my baby brother who picked up a camera a couple of months ago and now takes the most phenomenal photographs I’ve ever seen. I wishwishwish I had natural talent to do one thing, ANYTHING, supremely well. For now, I’ll keep collecting seriously talented friends. 🙂

  10. I often get the urge to run up a wall and do a backflip off it… or to do a jumping roundhouse kick from a standing position. Basically, I really wish I was a kung-fu ninja.

  11. Whistling. I’ve been trying since I was a kid. Earnestly trying. Ever since I heard Paul Simon in ‘Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard’ and Supertramp whistling in ‘Goodbye Stranger’ I’ve been a girl possessed.
I was told braces would make it happen. Not so (damn those liars). So I keep on trying, hoping, wishing, practicing. Every once in a great while, a faint little peep comes out and I get terribly excited. Then it fizzles. Will it ever happen – this ability to gloriously blow air out of one’s mouth and create such a lovely sound? If trying was a sure sign of success, I’d be right there with Otis, sittin’ by the dock of the Bay.

  12. My list is so incredibly long, but I just watched an episode of Top Gear where the guys raced those people who do the run and jump and bounce off walls and tuck and roll from the top of one building to the other (free running maybe it’s called).

  13. Math. I find it utterly fascinating, but if there is such a thing as exclusively numerical dyslexia, I’m pretty sure I have it. And my brain doesn’t like formal logic, either. I somehow made all As in the subject in high school, but I don’t know how I did it.

  14. @Alyce, free running is also called parkour, and it’s seriously awesome. that might be the closest thing to flying (without some kind of apparatus) for us humans 🙂

my wish is to ride a trials bike like the incredible Danny MacAskill.

  15. Sing! It seems like such a great way to express yourself, and when I try to sing it’s painful. I don’t want to be a famous singer or anything, I just want to be able to rock it at karaoke once in awhile.

  16. I love this kid! Dancing makes me smile. Have you seen this one? It is a comedian doing the evolution of dance. Oh how I spent hours in front of my mirror as a kid trying to learn these moves!
