Advice

From the January 2007 edition of Esquire:

James Watson, Scientist:

“Do things as soon as you can If a decision needs to be made, make it. It gives you more time to change your mind.”

Penn Jillette:

“I asked [Phyllis Diller], ‘How do you do so many things?’ And she said, ‘I don’t do anything that isn’t easy. I try things, and if they’re not immediately easy for me, I quit instantly.’ That’s some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten.”

  1. I hate to do this yet again (as my post here: https://mightygirl347425900.wpcomstaging.com/2007/02/27/stating-the-obvious/ was not responded to) but you aren’t leaving me with much of a choice.

I paid for your book on December 29 via Paypal and I have still not received it. I have emailed you repeatedly from February onwards inquiring as to its whereabouts. I have emailed you at more than one of your email accounts, so I find it puzzling that I am not receiving a response to any of my inquiries.

I would like to have this resolved ASAP.

  2. I find it puzzling that you have managed to create a new human being and still show up to blog now and then. Awesome.

  3. I got my signed book in less than a week, received tracking within a day of payment.

Maggie’s been a little busy creating life and nurturing it. Give her a break. The book is worth the wait (if there is one).

  4. I’m glad to hear that you received what you paid for. December 29th to March 22 is more than ample time – somewhere in there, at least one email responding to my numerous inquiries would have prevented me from having to try this as an avenue of communication.

  5. i am with you, dearieme. i wonder when she is going to stop hogging the comments with an issue that maggie apologized for/is remedying already. leave the new mommy alone, for cryin’ out loud! she’s working on it!

maggie – your little hankman is supercute. i want to take a bite, but i won’t because it’s not acceptable behavior for strangers to eat other people’s babies.

as for dear Phyllis…love her! followed her advice for geometry in high school.

  7. I’d rather get something done than be frustrated, sure.

But sometimes you need to just buckle down. If everything is easy, it’s easy for life to feel unfulfilling.

  8. I think that advice is how to steer everyone else off a cliff so that you can stand alone at the top with your achievements. Crazy like a fox, that Phyllis.

  9. Well, I am now taking a drawing class. I’ve always said, “I can’t draw.” But I’m realizing I never stuck with it. Now that I’m actually practicing, it’s fun and I am getting better. I’ve really got nowhere to go but up! So, it sometimes exciting to try to improve on things I currently have sort of a hard time with.

    I really like your blog!
