Apparently I’m having trouble writing about my teeth. They’re so damn symbolic. Ugh. So! Let’s talk about something else for a minute while I regroup.
This makes me laugh. (via BB-Blog)
This makes me cry.
Tell me what makes you laugh or cry, and that way I can use comments as a reward for getting through the dental post. Ready? Go!
Last night I wrote a post about the anniversary of the death of a friend and the writing of it made me cry. So I included a picture at the end of the post where she was being incredibly goody, which made me laugh. Scroll down on this post for that picture, which I think will make you laugh, too: http://tinyurl.com/2ugj4hn

I’ll get to the laugh/cry, but I want to tell you that the following phrase that you wrote, and I’m probably paraphrasing here, has had a huge impact on me in the last week: my body is an ecosystem.
I’m going through my own health issues, employing eastern medicine, western medicine and everything in between, but honestly, that sentence gave me SO MUCH CLARITY. It’s all related. All of it. Everything. All the time.
It’s like seeing this, all of a sudden I have magical powers. Thank you.

As for cry my grandmother is very ill so I’ve been needing the above to not cry lately.
I did read an interesting article once about fear of dentists and how teeth have always symbolized power (power to chew if nothing else) and thus going to the dentist so often represents a loss of power that that is part of why we’re afraid to go.

I laugh and cry at the same time a day or so before I get my period. My knees go weak, and I collapse in sobs and cackles at the slightest (and patternless – although it is usually over something little, like, I don’t know, losing a pen cap) provocation. I feel crazy while feeling utterly sane; there’s something about shifting hormones that lets in light about the absurdity of life.
And that’s the story of my period! Good night!

I got my mom laughing hysterically the other night at something I didn’t think was that funny.
According to America’s Test Kitchen or Cook’s Illustrated, or whoever, the color of your bread pan makes a difference. I was complaining that my goddamn black non-stick pans were going to get tossed because they over flowed banana bread into banana burnt caramel on the oven floor.
Which I had just spent 3 hours cleaning. That made me cry.
She thought it was hysterical that I thought the color of the pans mattered.
But for real crying? Discovering the new dog, who I’d probably gotten too early after losing the last dog to cancer, was going to have to go through a long, painful and difficult treatment for heartworms.

so funny.
I recently went to the dentist for the first time in five years. (I know, that is horrible.) It resulted in me getting my first dental crown (of the 4 that I need) and I felt such happiness, and relief, that I cried. My teeth had been weighing on me so much that I dreamed about them all the time. I am so curious to read what you have to say about symbolic teeth. So curious!

I have spent the last 15 years getting my teeth worked on. I was terrible to my teeth growing up and didn’t listen to anything while I had braces, and ended up with a MAJOR mouthful of problems. I have more crowns than the Queen. I don’t even want to count the rootcanals 😦
I know your fear and your pain (both physical and money) I am finally ALMOST done (only 3 more crowns to go!)

I recently went through my first IVF and blogged about the process. Until we got our negative beta test on 11/3. I didn’t write for my blog again until 1/2 (like, 2 days ago). I totally get the can’t make yourself write about it business. The failed IVF doesn’t make me cry, just annoying. I’m practical about it, because it’s the only thing that makes sense. So, next?
What makes me laugh? Lots of things. I love the commercial where the plucked chicken, afraid of MSG, hops out of the grocery cart and runs away. Really bad jokes. As in, “Did you hear about the two antennae that got married? The wedding sucked, but the reception was great.”
What makes me cry? When my church choir sings with orchestral accompaniment. Strings, horns, along with sacred choral music socks me in the gut. Also, thinking about my dad, who passed away 13 years ago this month. I miss him like crazy.
