My favorite thing about this video is how gobsmacked I look at the end of each section I complete. After the 50-second mark, it’s all celebratory improvisation, so please don’t blame Mr. Kloss for my lack of form.
Ready? Let’s do this thing:
Next time? Sparklers.
Ed note: Intel is making my site more interesting by sponsoring my Mighty Life List over the next few months. Things will be a little hectic over here for a while.
So great! Awesome moves there, for real. Not what I was expecting for your beginner debut!
super awesome girl!
Oh, Maggie! You look fantastic! This makes me think of a young Ginger Rogers audition tape. Thank you for sharing this incredible experience!
Wow, so impressed. I had a life list ages ago, have been working on a new one lately, you’ve inspired me.
You really need a shirt that says ‘real mighty’ or a sweater with a giant M in the middle.
Can’t wait to see what’s next!
This is one of the most excellent things I have ever seen. I think it would be impossible for me to have loved this more.
Coming out of lurking status to say that you are quite the bit of fantastic. Congrats on conquering your life list!
I teared up, just a little! Yay!
fabulous girl!
I’m so glad you’ve found support for your life list, you deserve it for inspiring so many of us.
This is awsome
Very nice! Great smile and attitude!
Oh how fun! You look positively jubilant!!
I loved this so much. You’re an inspiration!
Awesome tapping, Maggie!
That was great!
Spectacular!
Awww you look so happy! And you were great!
That just made me smile from ear to ear. And I my eyes may even misted up a little. Oh how I miss tap dancing.
Long time Might Girl fan, first time commenting. The outfit, the hair, the music, the routine, the execution . . . perfection!
Holy moly! You are unbelievably adorable. Keep tapping away…
I’m mighty envious of your new talent – tap dancing. Great job. Love it. You’re so adorable. Congratulations on having a sponsor for your life list. :)
Hopeful and earnest!!! YAY!!!
GOOD JOB, MAGGIE! You did really well!
Maggie! I’ve been tap dancing as long as I could walk and I’ve done quite a bit of teaching too. There’s a special place in my heart that gets all warm and fuzzy watching a beginner tap routine executed with such panache. Congrats. You were fabulous. I hope you loved it enough to keep taking classes!
So cute! You look adorable.
That’s pretty awesome.
Ditto to #23 Rebecca…
Tap is fun! Great Job Maggie!
You are my hero.
Oh Maggie, what’s not to love?!
You rock and all the WW2 service men are all lined up watching you on the floor :) I can just see it.
You are so inspiring. Totally made me tear up and also grin from ear to ear!
Hi Maggie,
That was fantastic!, and super cute.. You are amazing! Congrats for crossing one more off from the list.
Thank you for wearing the perfect tap dancing outfit for that song. Where the hell is Gene Kelly when you need him?
You just gave me a really big smile!
Brava Maggie! Now start with the left foot and do the whole routine with everything on the opposite side. I’m waiting….
impressive!!
too good! you have the moves and the style. Intel is surely happy with their investment now :)
watching this made my crappy day like 800% better.
go maggie! what a lovely, lovely thing to have happen to a lovely, lovely person.
GO MAGGIE! That was fantastic. Next time, more jazz hands.
You are simply glowing with happiness and are so fun to watch tap-tap-tapping away! Great job~ you seem to have a knack for tap, if I may say so myself. :)
You are absolutely adorable. LOVE.
So great! Loved that.
you are a natural! what great fun! happy happy congratulations on your newly tappy-happy feet!
That video clip made me smile. I applaud your bravery and look forward to more updates. Good luck. :)
Maggie, you are just great at life.
My dad has been tap dancing my entire life, and I have to say, you looked pretty great for having one lesson!
I still hate you. But a little less.
nicely done. i give you a standing ovation.
Hoowah-POW! Awesome.
Wow Maggie! That was great! You are such an inspiration to me. BTW – the clothes, hair, dance & music make it seem like you stepped right out of Singin’ in the Rain or some other fabulous musical. :) Too cute!
Those 11 hours really paid off! You look like a natural with the jump-with-your-hands-up classic tap move. And that work is saved for posterity.
Good work, Mason.
lovely – thanks so much for the smiles you’ve given me!
So cute!
Oh, Maggie! I agree with everyone here, especially Megan #44!
You don’t need sparklers – YOU sparkle!
Standing ovation from up here in Canada!
I am SO doing that! I haven’t taken tap since 1981, but you make it look like breeze. Nice work!
What happened to your design? It was so nice and clean before. As an admirer, and someone who cares, I won’t sleep well at night unless I advise you to revert to previous version.
I cannot even tell you how adorable you are, how proud of you I am or how much I’d love to be you! You’re so MIGHTY!!
Wow! Quick learner!
Encore! Encore! xo
My god, woman. You are adorable.
Ha, that’s awesome! I think you learned more moves in one weekend than I did in the entire year of lessons I took as a child. *applause*
You’re a natural!
I’ve taken classes with John before…although it’s been a few years, I still remember how much fun I had. Congrats and great shuffles and flaps.
wiiiiiings! you did wings! I took tap for 14 years and never executed them with as much grace as you just did after a few lessons, bravo!
That is so awesome! You are adorable, and watching this put a smile on my face while I was at work this morning.
Keep up the fun and inspiring good work!
What a hoot! Too bad the Lawrence Welk Show wasn’t still taping. You’d be a shoo-in.
As if you weren’t awesome enough!! You were totally cut out for tap dancing, and look fabulous doing it! Can’t wait to watch you on this journey, you are truly an inspiration. And, oh to be a fly on the wall with you and Melissa next week….
That was Awsome! You should keep it up! Like your music selection too.
That was great! Will you keep it up until you are able to dance professionally? Or was this a one-off?
That was fantastic! Thanks for cheering up my gloomy Sunday!
(claps wildly)
Great job!!!
fabulous! i am impressed!
You look fantastic! I love that little prance-in- a-circle move, and that arms-and-legs-kick-out-in-synchronicity move (as you can tell, I have no formal training in either dance or dance nomenclature). BUT! Let’s not forget the point – you did great!
love it! so glad you got to do it – are you hooked now?
OMG! You are fantastic!
I took my first tap class when I was three, and I’ve been dancing in one form or another ever since. I took adult lessons in college, and OMG! you are incredible! I’ve never seen anyone get it so quickly! very impressive!
I love the life list! Thanks for sharing.
I took tap for 10+ years as a kid, and I never could master that windmill move. I’m jealous!
You are just adorable in the best sense.
what a totally joyful video. you are mighty indeed!
as a dancer, I can say that was wonderful!
You made it look effortless which is the secret to enchanting tap dancing.
Oh.
My.
God.
So.
Cute.
Yaaaay! [Clapclapclapclapclap] If I new how to whistle through my fingers I’d be doing that too.
“Knew,” not “new.” Sigh. When am I going to learn to proofread before I hit the “submit comment” button?
I love your style! You are my favorite blogger. I swear. Your trench runs and wings were FAB! Not to mention your flaps and shuffle ball changes. You are one juicy chick.
I was watching this with my laptop on mute, and “Green Light” by John Legend playing on my iPod. Your routine, in a strange “walk it out” way, goes perfectly with that song!
Love it!
hey, i liked that! as a tap dancer from age 5-17, you reminded me of how much fun it was/is. darn it, i do not currently own a pair of tap shoes.
I’ve just discovered your blog (HOW IS THAAAAAT POSSIBLE!?!?!) I love it and I love this video!
OMG, that was great!
You are a natural. Love the enthusiasm!
This reminds me how much I loved the fact that we had to learn tap in gym glass in high school. Now I want a pair of tap shoes. (shuffle ball change!)
I think you should change careers. The dancing was fabulous….the facial expressions – priceless.
you did all that with ONE lesson!! incredible! stylistically, the you rock the piece as well: hair, clothes and music – nice.
You’ve inspired me to unearth my tap shoes and renew my dedication to the time step. Also: When I read John’s comment, my heart actually stopped. Oh, how I dreaded the call of: “And…other side!” This was always the point at which I would fake asthma and broken legs.
I applaud the sparklers idea and eagerly await the sequel.
Awesome! I used to tap. I miss it a lot.
Wonderful!
maggie, you rock. as does your list. as does intel for sponsoring it. WOOHOO!
Fanfreakintastic. LOVE it.
That made me smile. Awesome.
Maggie, I started reading your column almost 3 years ago. Your wit and candid outlook hooked me immediately. I giggled and Woo’d along with you in this video…your appreciation for even the mundane is joyful and inspiring. Thanks for sharing the idea of a Life List, and may you continue to discover the mighty things in yours.
Absolutely fantastic awesomeness to the tenth power! Whoa. I’m so inspired. Way to live sister, love love love it!
xoxox
Oh Maggie Mason, I love you. I do!
Tap dancing WITH some Shorty Georges! I’m impressed. (The move when you point down with your fingers.)
You are my hero.
You are fabulous! Your happiness is catching, Maggie!
