Thanks, Rebels!
A couple of weeks ago, I announced that team Mighty would donate $500 to Charity Water once 100 people had posted photos of themselves wearing white after Labor Day to the Tide Vivid White + Bright Rule Breakers of the Week Contest on Facebook.
Through your efforts, we reached that goal, allowing us to pledge $500 toward our Camp Mighty Charity Water fundraising project this November.
Thank you so much to all of you who took the time to defy tradition, share your photos, and make a real difference for those in need.

Impolite White with Meg Biram
OK. We only need 20 more entries in the Tide VIVID White + Bright Rule Breakers of the Week Contest before we can give $500 to Charity Water. Let’s do this.
Joining our ranks is Meg Biram of Mimi+Meg, a new friend who I met in New York at a Sunday Supper. She spent all last weekend at Mighty Summit, and is a very nice person indeed. Or so I thought. It turns out she’s totally ignoring her grandma by offering up more stylish ideas for wearing white after Labor Day. Take that, grandma.
(Meg suggests these Rag + Bone dip-dye jeans. For more, check out her Whites that Work for Fall roundup.)
If you haven’t entered the contest yet, please do. Not only does this give you a very good chance to win a $3,000 shopping spree from Tide, but if we get 100 entries, the Mighty team can donate $500 to Charity Water.
We’re rebels, baby. Rebels with a cause.

Whoa! We’re at 80 entries right now in the Tide VIVID White + Bright Rule Breakers of the Week Contest. Just 20 more we can give Charity Water $500 from the Mighty Coffers. Bwahahaha.
And look! Miss Anna Beth Chao is also on board with the plan to subvert Grandma Law and wear white after Labor Day — particularly whilst cycling through the countryside.
If you have a photo of yourself wearing white, please upload it to the Tide contest page on Facebook. Entering gives you a shot at winning a $3,000 shopping spree. (A ludicrously good shot, actually.)
Clean clothes for you, clean water for kids!
Anna Beth is so excited. Me too, Chao.
Mighty Closet: Impolite White
Hey! Thanks to Tide VIVID White + Bright, sponsors of this post. Because of them, I will be eating spaghetti while I wear these clothes. Or ribs? Maybe ribs. I’m hungry.
Surprise! T-shirt by Zoe Karssen.
Here’s what. I know it’s not cool to wear white after Labor Day. I mean, I have the books.
But, I live in in San Francisco. Despite what you’ve heard about California, it’s crazy cold here. And? Kind of stupid to wear white in the months leading up to Labor Day. Not because of tradition, but because many of us are just too pale to pull it off after two months of living under a blanket of fog. By “many of us,” I mean me.
So, please join me in wearing white after Labor Day. With lots of texture, a little vintage, and a certain je ne sais “up yours.” Labor Day, you are an arbitrary deadline imposed upon us by the man.
Here’s what I’ll be wearing this Fall:
A classic silhouette. 1960s white cocktail dress from Thrush vintage on Etsy.
Short and sweet. Club Monaco lace shorts.
Retro-modern appeal. Norma Kamali halterneck swimsuit.
Pretty in spring, summer, or fall. Lauren Moffatt sleeveless silk dress.
Machine washable. Superga tennis shoes.
Great contrast. Club Monaco zodiac-print shirt.
In case the fog rolls in. Madewell over-the-knee cableknit 1937 socks.
A little edge. Equipment silk shirt.
Retro texture. Vintage Lacoste cardigan from mademoisellebomode on Etsy.
Easy and elegant. Mango two-tone jumpsuit.
Simple and sweet. MUJI lace tank top and shorts.
For your eyes. Vintage cat eye glasses from AloofNewWhimsey on Etsy.
Masculin/féminin. Club Monaco blouse.
Classic and comfortable. Alice + Olivia One-Shoulder Silk Dress.
An easy pullover. J.Crew tippi sweater in swiss dot.
Genius. Warby Parker specs. My math teacher is hotter than your math teacher.
Right? Right.
Will you be wearing white after Labor Day? Clearly. Visit the Tide VIVID White + Bright Rule Breakers of the Week Contest on Facebook, and upload a photo of yourself wearing white for a chance to win a shopping spree from Tide. Hooray!
