Austin is one of my favorite places, mostly because they put melted cheese on everything. My friend and longtime business partner Laura Mayes grew up in a little town outside Austin, and she always knows where to get the very best melted cheese, and fried catfish, and margaritas, and sushi. Mmmm, margaritas and sushi. Check out her Go Travel list of Things to Taste in Austin.
And then ignore the scale when you get back.
Have you checked in on your Life List lately? A few projects I’ve got my eye on right now:
-Bonnie is cultivating a sexy hobby I’d never heard of.
ALSO! We got notifications. Yesssss.
If you haven’t been to Go Mighty in a while, please come check out the activity feed on your profile.
Now you can finally!! see what your friends are adding to or crossing off of their Life Lists, and what they’re saying about yours. I’m stupid excited about this because one of our main goals with Go Mighty was to let people collaborate (You want to drive an ice cream truck? I own an ice cream truck!) and this feature makes that possible. So go do things! We like to watch. And I mean that in the creepiest way possible.
If you haven’t joined Go Mighty yet, please do. Once you’ve registered, you should receive your invitation within 24 hours. Jooooin us.
This is part of my Life List goal to Get Organized and Own Less Crap. Thanks to Glad® for sponsoring this post. Without them, I would still own sliver plastic go-go boots in someone else’s size. …Maybe I should go get those out of the donation pile.
I can be sentimental about stuff — the kind of person who names her car, her knick-knacks … her kitchen mixer.
But lately I’ve come to accept that every object I own increases my time investment in upkeep, organization, and retrieval. I have too much stuff, not enough time, and the two are not mutually exclusive.
They say you’re supposed to give away things you haven’t worn in over two years. This is because they are robots. Robots who have never met this dress, which I call “Mrs. Roper’s Night on The Town.”
Come and knock on our dooooor!
Last week, as a part of Go Mighty‘s I Made This project, I used glitter and a paint brush to make a couple of Disco Dinosaurs. You rose to the #imadethis challenge by die-cutting, silkscreening, and engaging with power tools. Nice. Here are a few of my favorite things you posted on Go Mighty:
Elaine made something to replace that sock on your door knob. The G will get the job done, but if it’s really serious, go for letter F.
Elaine also shared these CMYK/RGB cards she made for two friends and graphic designers who are getting married.
Liz made these super quick, super simple, caramel apples and shared the recipe. Hungry.
Jenn made these to support Craft Hope. If you’re a knitter, a do-gooder, or both, Jenn shares her patterns and more about the project to knit warm things for orphans here.
Jen made these bookmark save the dates for her upcoming wedding. Clever.
More favorites from the project:
Samantha is making capes for the children in her life.
Jocelyn made something to show her support for Boston.
Amber faced her fear of flat meringue and made a banana pudding pie.
Sarah made a cake to remind her daughter of their life in Australia.
Lorien has kicked off a year long sewing project with this pug.
Tara made homemade pizza on the grill.
The winner of the limited edition polaroid camera is Bonnie Chan who has taken the first steps toward her goal of taking a piece of nostalgia and sewing it into a gown. Read her story here. Congrats, Bonnie! (Check your email.)
Our plan is to continue this project on Go Mighty throughout the summer. So, if you haven’t already, join in by sharing what you make with the tag #imadethis. We’re putting together a big box of awesome to be gifted to one participant when the season ends. More on that to come, and big thanks to those of you who played this time around.
Go Mighty is our Life List community for people who get it done. If you’re not a member yet, that makes no sense. Sign up, and we’ll send an invite your way within 24 hours.
Update on my song-a-day project: You guys were in two camps, loved it or wanted to shiv your laptop screen every time you saw one.
I’m continuing the project, because it makes me happy, but I hear those of you who thought it was overwhelming my other posts. Here’s my solution.
From now on, I’ll provide a link to the day’s song at the bottom of whatever I’m posting. If you’re on Spotify, you can automatically follow along daily by subscribing to that month’s playlist, which I keep updated. Once a month, I’ll post a roundup of that month’s songs, as well as the occasional playlist I make for whatever I’m up to. The May playlist will be done soon, and here’s the full playlist for April:
Go subscribe if you’d like to keep up, or check in on my daily posts for the song link at the bottom. As always, please let me know if you have suggestions. I’ve found a ton of my favorite songs that way.
After listening to 1,000 new songs as part of my Life List, I decided to post a new song on Mighty Girl every day for a year. For this project, I’m focusing on songs produced in the last year or two, so if you’re looking for new music, put this in your ears.
