I've lived in Maryland and the surrounding areas my entire life (27 years)... in 45 days, I leave with my boyfriend to move to Orlando, Florida. And though I'm incredibly excited... I am DREADING what is going to happen to my beautiful curly hair that took me 18 years to learn how to control.. My bff keeps saying that I'm going to be Monica from Friends when her hair is crazy and she has to put it in dreads. Dreads aren't sounding like a horrible idea... So yea. I'm sure that Orlando will be doing horrible horrible things to my hair. If I remember, I'll come back and post pictures ;) My hair is big and curly. I now wash my hair with baking soda I've dissolved into boiled water (with a drop of each peppermint oil and honey added to the mix) and condition with lemon juice, white vinegar, and lavender essential oil diluted in filtered cold water. The results are at best "meh" and at worst "where'd I put my shampoo" with my regular hard water (the mineral deposits allow for scummy buildup and keep the good stuff from dissolving), but since I've gotten the balance and prep down, I've never been so happy with my hair. My hair, once poufy and frizzy, is now soft, slightly lightened, and behaves, even in hot and humid weather. I haven't used hair product (other than a little hairspray to hold bangs back in an updo once or twice) or conventional shampoo/conditioner since the end of March. LOVE IT.
