30 Days of Fun: Day Three

Dance party in my bedroom. I’m gonna need a giant disco ball.

(By the way, I’m not a fan of the N-word, which makes an appearance in this song. I am, however, a fan of Miss Elliot and her various Misdemeanors. I also enjoy running things.)

    Girl, you have MOVES. Impressed.

  • Julie Says:

moves indeed! a nd thin! you’ve always been thin- bit when I was having a shitty year I dropped 20 lbs — to my 8th grade weight — and people couldnt stop talking about how great i looked. I would be walking down the street in greenwich village weeping and friends would stop me to tell me how I was looking so good! weird

  • Ami Says:

    Rock on, Mighty Girl.

  • Cassie Boorn Says:

This is why I will never stand next to Maggie on a dance floor. Girl has moves!

  • Liz Says:

Well I guess that eases any concern over your health! Phew! Also, I think Mighty Girl got her groove back. ;)

  • Amber Says:

    Love! You’re a great dancer.

  • Kristen Says:

I love this whole project. I can’t wait to read it every day! I hope this helps inject some light and happiness into each and every day. I know it has been making me smile!

  • ALH Says:

Rock out the bad stuff, rock in the good!

  • holaMau Says:

    Napoleon should be jealous.

  • Nothing But Bonfires Says:

Better check my purse for those yellow lamps next time I’m over, that’s all I’m saying.

  • Brandy Says:

If I need a mental/emotional pick-me up, this will be my go to bit of happy. Love this, Maggie! You are awesome :)

  • PinkieBling Says:

Get DOWN, girl! You do, indeed, have MOVES. I plan to study this video until I can reliably recreate them. Keep on dancin’!

  • Gwynne Says:

Impressive moves, for reals. I love the idea of 30 days of fun.

  • Laura Says:

You are a ridiculously good dancer.

  • Maureen Says:

Reminds me of those old youtubes of the “Dancing Girl” with the fur hats. I think she was from Scotland. Mary Something, I think. Anyway, it’s a compliment.

  • Megan Says:

Alright – Event in Chicago celebrating the 40th anniversary of Soul Train on July 23. Be there.

  • Kath Says:

Again, I wish we were friends. You are inspirational.

  • Rae Ann Says:

PS – swirl your hips a little more.

    This is funny!

It’s like being behind someone’s mirror when they are dancing in their bedroom by themselves.

You are very brave to post this. Although I don’t see your face, so maybe it’s not really you. (kidding)

  • Anne Marie Says:

I love that you posted this. So great! Nothing like some solo dancing to shake away a bad mood and lousy day and make you feel good. Keep dancing, Maggie! :)

  • Tami -- Teacher Goes Back to School Says:

    nice moves, maggie!

this made me smile. or it was the prosecco in my juice at breakfast or finding out my soon to be daughter’s orphanage bunkmate will be coming home with our close friends in town?

    who cares?!?!?! fun all around!

  • Amy --- Just A Titch Says:

Please tell me Camp Mighty has some sort of dance party component?

  • Brandy Says:

@Amy(Just A Titch) — Didn’t you know? Mighty Girl translates to “Dance Party A-Go-Go” in 50 languages! ;)

  • Laura Jane Says:

The moves are stellar, but how has no one commented on your DREAMY bedroom?! So polished and airy! Adore.

  • Karen Says:

Aw, this made me smile – you’ve got the moves Maggie!

  • Laura Says:

    Do it, girl. So awesome!

  • Absquatulate Says:

DANG. Me doing that would be more robot than hip and a laugh riot: you make it look awzom. And whether or not it’s true for you, I can attest to the Divorce Weight-Loss Program and how weird it was to have everyone say “Wow you look fantastic!” when you’re dying slowly on the inside.

  • sarahsonger Says:

Girl, I’ve been feeling like dancing. Get it girl!

  • Nikki Says:

If this video doesn’t go viral, the internet is broken.

  • Tina Says:

Okay Maggie, you obviously like to dance. I urge you to get thy booty to a Les Mills BODYJAM class pronto (it could be one of your fun things!)

It’s an hour long class full of cool moves to hot music (Les Mills classes are the only ones in the world that use music by the original artists instead of cheesy covers – they’ve even used that Missy song in the past)

It’s the most fun you can have exercising (also, it kicks Zumba’s ass…)

You can find gyms in San Francisco that have it here: http://www.lesmills.com/global/classes/find-a-class.aspx

And you can see a taster video here: http://www.lesmills.com/global/bodyjam/bodyjam-group-fitness-class.aspx. (Note: The music on the video is NOT indicative of what you get in class – music licensing prevents the actual class music being put online)

Seriously, you don’t need drugs when you do this class, it is mind altering in and of itself!

  • C in San Diego Says:

    Wow…impressed…you should appear in Ellen…

  • Becky Says:

Yay for dance parties! Maureen, you’re thinking of BandyToaster (Sophie Merry) from Ireland; one of my all time fave dance videos. Maggie’s excellent moves did make me think of her also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr2JneittqQ

  • Candice Says:

This totally brightened my day. You have got seriously enviably moves! I’m definitely embarking on a 30 day project in a few days to lead up to my 36th birthday. Great suggestion!

  • Heather Says:

This video makes me so happy. :) Awesome moves!

  • norm Says:

Inspired by the “Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon” mashup I watched this while listening to “Let Me Drown” by Soundgarden and it worked surprisingly well.

  • Elizabeth Says:

This is such a great idea. Thanks for being inspiring even in the midst of hard times. Plus, posting video of yourself dancing is awesomely brave. I think a 30 day project is in my future!

  • Eve Says:

    LOVE this.
Even when you are going through difficult times, you are a ray of sunshine. I love knowing I can always read your blog for some inspiration.
    Keep on workin’ it, Maggie.

  • Claire Says:

This is really fun! You’re looking great! I think you inspired me to have my own dance party tonight, complete with some Missy E. LOVE HER!

  • agirl Says:

    Love this. And you.

  • Megan Says:

I went to the Soul Train event in Chicago mentioned above on Saturday. I went by myself but when hundreds of people gasped in appreciation and joy when James Brown came on, I knew I wasn’t alone, and when I came back from a break and the dance floor was united in an epic electric slide, I knew I’d found my people.
