I’m with maureen – I think it tastes like apple. I do love to put them in a colorful fruit salad though. Sliced starfruit, blueberries, sliced strawberries, and kiwi, with a little lemon juice and a little honey. Try that. It’s awesome (can substitute the starfruit for pineapple, and leave off the kiwi if you can’t find it).

I had this for the first time a couple months ago, courtesy of my boyfriend’s Japanese mother, and I couldn’t get enough of it. It’s the perfect thing to eat on a hot day. Light and extremely juicy and not at all too sweet.

I always thought it tasted like a slightly odd grape – very expensive grape (which are already expensive-ish) – so really best used as a decoration or garnish than food…. which is how I came to taste it at 16 when I was working in a bakery that used as a crowning center of their fruit tarts.

You know… as often as I see starfruit littering platters of food at work (I’m a catering manager), I don’t think I’ve ever actually eaten one!

I just love this idea of tasting 1000 fruits. Back before life and kids took over I loved to spend hours cooking and baking. I spotted those and thought they’d look so pretty in a fruit tart, nestled in the crust. Taste and looks were not quite as I imagined, but fun to try.

I did eat the fruit, did not eat the seeds. And yes, it’s the perfect drink garnish. Probably good to perfume water too (like cucumber).

I was waiting for you to get to starfruit! to me it has an apple texture with a kinda peachy taste… mmm delicious.
